When I was in sixth grade I got braces and had them taken off my sophomore year of high school (so 4 years)..I broke the retained about a week later and never went back to get it fixed. I know, a horrible thing to do after spending so much $$$ on my teeth..
Anyways, my teeth are fine, all in allignment but not as straight (obviously) as when I got the braces taken off. It's been about 4 years...It's noticeable enough that it bothers me..Not really anyone around me, no one has even mentioned it, but pictures look way different, and Im not as confident as I was years ago- about :) 'ing.
If I used something like invisaline, do you think it would help me achieve that perfect smile? Or even a new fitting for a retainer that could shift my teeth slightly?(haha..is that possible)
I didnt wear a retainer..now it's 4 years later!..It's worth asking:?
Invisalign would be perfect for "tweaking" your smile back to perfect. You will still have to wear a retainer at night after your treatment is complete.
Reply:I had my braces taken off 4-20-2004 and they gave me Invisaline retainers afterwards. I use them occasionally, but my teeth are pretty much going back in their crooked alignment (sans the four teeth that were pulled prior to the braces.) I've been wondering about this too, because I was the PERFECT patient, but when I got my retainers... it all kinda went to nothing.
The Invisaligns stain with ANYTHING... especially if you smoke or drink cola/dark drinks. Mine are cloudy, ugly, and I'd rather not wear them. So, I wouldn't recommend them to anyone no matter their lifestyle.
I'd love to see how your teeth turn out, because I need to get mine re-aligned.

I recently had a tooth extracted and I was wondering if it is healing right. Are there and good web sites out that will show pictures for examples. I want to know if it looks normal.

How do you convince a 7 y/o to stop thumb sucking?
My daughter was already a thumb sucker in the womb.... I have the ultrasound pictures to prove it! She is now 7 and still does it. We've discussed with our doctor ways to help her to quit, we've tried all the old fashioned "remedies", tried reward/punishment system..... yes, we've tried pepper, hot oil, gloves, the stuff to make you quit biting your nails, the stuff to make you throw up..... everything. She has almost completely ruined the nail bed on that one thumb. (She will ONLY suck the right one) She has also caused her teeth to raise and create a "hole" when her mouth is closed. She's now lost one of those top front baby teeth and I'm afraid that she will ruin her "good" teeth when they begin coming in.
We've asked her about her thumb sucking and she pretty much has convinced us that it is a security thing... Like a blanket or favorite doll or something.
How can we help her feel safe and secure with out thumb sucking? HELP!!!!

Reply:Ask her if she wants to be a "big girl" and explain that "big girls" don't suck their thumb. You don't have to do this in a demeaning way, just try to show her the ups to being "grown up" (because we all know how much they want to be grown up). Try teaching her about courage to help break the security thing. Best of luck!
Reply:Tell the child that if you don't stop sucking your thumb, you will have to get it cut off because your spit has acids in it, and it will eventually begin to eat away the skin on the thumb. Thus, amputation. I hope this helps!

Reply:Sounds like you have tried my suggestions already. We use to put nasty stuff on my little sisters thumbs like you did. We also use to tell them nobody is going to want to hold their hands, big girls don't suck their finger, and anytime we saw them we'd yank it out. They eventually stopped.

Don't bring up the thumbsucking. Just sit down with her and ask her "is there anything bothering you or something you'd like to talk about?" Figure out what she's insecure about, and go from there. Once she feels secure, she'll stop sucking her thumb.

Do i need to get braces?
Hey guys,
i am thinking of getting braces soon, but i am not sure if i need one. I am posting my pic. Can someone please tell me if i really need a braces?
Also, i have been told to remove 2 teeth from top and 2 from the bottom in order to push my teeth in. Is this normal removing teeth? Is there a big difference with the quality of orthodontists' work? I am asking this question since the first place i went quoted me $8375 but the 2nd place quoted me $6000. I live in montreal by the way.

And I did have to have two teeth on top and two on bottom removed to have them straightened. It hurt very much every month going to get them tightened again. And it also hurts because of the wires next to your gums. But if I had it to do over again I would. I love the way my teeth look now.

Lets have a brief description of how you look visually - be honest - warts and all if you have them! Its nice to be able to picture someone your speaking to and sometimes you get it right. Lets see how this works out? I'm five foot three tall, size fourteen, blonde bob which really is grey but for the salon colour, green eyes and good teeth - no warts (had two removed last year) and at 56 most of the avatars pictures are too young for me and my daughter is trying to find a pic of an old bat! Grrrrrr!

Reply:Yes I am honest, I'm 5ft 2 a size 8 to10 and was 50 on the 3rd of this month, I have bottle blond hair medium length that I put back over my ears, hair was jet black only started to go grey at 15 had streaks only that was torture so all blond now. My eyes are bright green and I have good teeth, my skin is fine I go on a sunbed twice a weeks for 6 mins my GP says fine as long as it is no more, not for a tan as I do cover my face a lot only it helps with severe arthritis in the right side of my face and my knees. I have a few health problems and am thankful each morning that I wake and am OK. I have wrinkles, some say I don't look my age, I feel it. I have pics on my 360. In the summer and this IS the truth I get lots of beeps from cars from the back but very few from the front. I would do anyone a good deed and am very caring, I'm a bad liar so I don't tell them.

Anyhoo im really honest! Im 24 (25 in may-grrr), 5ft 8, size 12-14 (uk) as well so curvy! and thats my face so thats what i look like!
Reply:Yes I am honest, I'm 5ft 2 a size 8 to10 and was 50 on the 3rd of this month, I have bottle blond hair medium length that I put back over my ears, hair was jet black only started to go grey at 15 had streaks only that was torture so all blond now. My eyes are bright green and I have good teeth, my skin is fine I go on a sunbed twice a weeks for 6 mins my GP says fine as long as it is no more, not for a tan as I do cover my face a lot only it helps with severe arthritis in the right side of my face and my knees. I have a few health problems and am thankful each morning that I wake and am OK. I have wrinkles, some say I don't look my age, I feel it. I have pics on my 360. In the summer and this IS the truth I get lots of beeps from cars from the back but very few from the front. I would do anyone a good deed and am very caring, I'm a bad liar so I don't tell them.

Reply:I have just turned 51,curly hair, going grey around the temples, decided to let it grow after years of it being very short. Truth be told, I met my brother who used to call me names because of my hair, and he is as bald as a coot!!. Who said there is no God!.
I have a goatee beard, still blond, very good skin and look younger than my years. Never smoked or sunbathed. Front tooth missing because I hit a steering wheel in a car accident and cannot find a NHS dentist in my area for love nor money.

Is the composite resin used in dental bonding the same with the white fillings?
also, does bonded teeth look fake? i mean, can you tell the real teeth and the bonded part? it looks too good to be true in before and after pictures.

yes, it is the same, and no you shouldn't be able to tell. the only ways that you would know is if the dentist selected the wrong shade or they do a really shotty job. also if you are a heavy coffee drinker or a smoker, your "normal" part of your tooth will yellow and the bonding will stay the lighter color. also, if you whiten your teeth the bonding will not change color.
