Expanders!! help!!?

I'm getting expander on Monday, and I'm really scared to get them. I'm not sure whether it will hurt since I'm 14. My orthodontist says that I will have it in for about 1-2 months. Currently, I have little bands in my teeth to make room for the expanders, and they hurt sooo much!! Well, only when I bite. The thing is that my orthodontist put it on my top and bottom teeth and I’ve only seen pictures of the top. Is it going to be similar to my top? I'm getting the ones that won't be able to come out of my mouth. I have a really low tolerance for pain, so if anyone that’s like me can answers this?

Expanders!! help!!?
hey good luck! yeah I got top and bottom expanders in yesterday, it sucks ! it flat out sucks! lol it does hurt. The most pain is getting them on well for me anyways! I am a huge baby though! yes food gets suck up there and its the most awkward thing ever! its really gross! and I have a lisp lol a really big lisp! and I drool like a bulldog! I haven't experienced moving them yet. I have to do that ever other day! the worst part is the lisp though ! ha but after awhile you just forget and you feel fine! I wish you the best of luck!
Reply:hey thanks for picking me!!! I have begun moving them and actually it doesn't hurt at all... its a little tight but thats all! good luck! Report It

Reply:Okay, I'm fifteen and I still currently have braces. A couple months after I got them on I got a pallet explander, otherwise known as a expander. When they first put it on, you salivate a lot. But you should get over that in a couple days. A lot of food gets stuck up there, and it took me about three days to realize the only way I could get it out was to suck really hard and make a darth-vader sounding noise. All my friends laughed, but it's no big deal. For the most part it doesn't hurt, even tightening it nightly didn't have pain, just pressure in my nasal area.

But when you get it off, it's one of the best reliefs of having braces.
Reply:the only thing that hurts is then they put the metal things around your teeth for the expander when they put it in your mouth. and whoever turns the key for you better be good cause if it goes down your throat they pull it out with a string. seriously! but when they turn the key it hurts for about like 15 seconds maybe. i am a bit better with pain although i did have to have a expander. also be prepared to see all kinds of food on it when they take it out thats like moldy. i know its gross but its true. and also be prepared to have a hard time talking the first two days.
Reply:ok i had an expander and sry to say this but its hel.l.

u have to crank it and u will get a huge space (REALLY REALLY BIG) in between ur two front teeth. the cranking doesn't hurt just a tad bit of pressure thats it.

the anchors that will hold the expander to the top of ur mouth have to be measured to make sure its the right size, and when there jamming it up ur teeth TAT HURTS.

anyways, here's some more bad news: food will get stuck up ur expander its super super gross. always have one of those cleaners with u. nothing WONT get stuck up there. i hated eating at school because food gets stuck up there all the time.

u will never have so much pressure in ur mouth when they take out the expander, but when its off its heaven.

ur teeth will be ultra gorgeous afterwards so don't wry it will be ova sooooon!!!!
