What's wrong with this dog's tooth?

My friend showed me a picture of her dogs tooth and we don't know what's wrong. Does anyone know?

What's wrong with this dog's tooth?
The enamel has cracked off. If you want to save the tooth, you need to see a veterinary dentist to have a restoration done. If you cannot afford that, the tooth needs to be removed. When the coating is worn away, the protection is worn away and it is likely to get infected. As stated many times in this board, dental infections lead to heart and kidney failure. There was also a recent story about a little boy in NJ that died from an abscess in the brain that was due to an infection in the mouth.
Reply:Is just plaque? Try brushing. If it's bothering the dog, though, and it doesnt go away, I would consult a vet.
Reply:uhh... its hard to tell ...

if its just brownish then its just a little tarter. buy some bones meant for cleaning teeth, or clean the teeth with a tooth brush and doggy tooth paste

if the tooth has actuallly chipped or worn away, see a veterinarian... that is not normal
Reply:its just tartar theres toothpaste specially made for dogs to get it off if it wont come of the vet take the tartar off for you except its expensive since they put the dog under for a bit
Reply:It is either plaque or starting of a cavity. My mom is a dentis thats how I know.
Reply:Looks like a possible overbite, with the opposing teeth wearing into the enamel. I'd get a vet to check it out, though!
Reply:It is just plaque like humans get. I recommend getting greenis for dogs. I get them for my cats and dogs and they work great. My vet thought my 3 years old boxer was younger than this because he had no plaque on his teeth. You can also buy dog toothpaste and brush his teeth.
Reply:The dog should get it's teeth cleaned at some point. There is a bit of scale built up on those teeth. It is nothing unusual yet.
Reply:It does appear from the second picture that he's broke off a chunk of enamel. Probably a trip to the vet is in order.
Reply:tarter and plaque build up...

this can be completely avoided by feeding a raw diet. Crunching bones is natures toothbrush. I have an 11 year old aussie whose teeth look like those of a 6 month old pup, they look so healthy!!! Hes never had them cleaned or scaled, except by his diet of raw foods, etc. heres some info

Reply:Plac, and maybe ingrown.
Reply:Has this dog had its jaw wired before? My boxer got a broken jaw and the jaw was wired to his tooth. The tooth was damaged at the roots as a result of the broken jaw. It looked fine for a year or so then it eventually started looking like that dogs tooth, worked up, smelled real bad(breath) and fell out. vet said he had a chance of loosing it and he did eventually.
Reply:It's tarter. He probably had a retained baby tooth for a while which made a mess just on that one tooth.
