Can a dentist do this? And how much would it cost?

I got orthodontic work done to straighten my teeth, and had them whitened. They are perfect except all the people I see with veneers or such have the bottoms/tops of the teeth smooth without any bumps. Can a dentist file your teeth slightly, it's really not that noticeable, but would add a nice touch. Like see how the bottoms of her front teeth in this picture are smooth? http://www.fotosearch.com/comp/corbis/dg... I want that.

You can have them filed down but once the enamel is gone, it is gone. A flat incisal edge is always desired. When teeth erupt from the gums they have 3-4 bumps on them called mamalons. usually through normal wear and tear they flatten out and you get that normal look you like.

For those with veneers, they are made to be long term and perfect when placed. They don't wear down... if anything they chip and crack over time.

If you want that look, veneers will be best. As the color would be stable and the edges will stay at the same place.

If you shorten or "file" your edges down, your teeth may appear shorter. A good cosmetic dentist can advise you on this.

hope this helps,
