Retainer Questionnnnn.....?
those 6-7hrs/day might have an effect somewhere its better to be safe than sorry because if you don't, your teeth might start to loosen up.. you'll have to wear braces again
Reply:your doing just fine..they don't work miracles over night....but they do work eventually.
Reply:It may. Especially for the first year you should wear it as much as possible.
Reply:6 or 7 hours a day over a period of time will be more than enough to let your teeth start shifting back to where they were before. If your dentist told you to wear your retainer 24 hours a day there was a good reason for it. It's to train your teeth to maintain the new positions you went through all those months of adjustments and pain for. Why would you want to ruin it after all that? Not to mention the money your folks shelled out for all that work.....now you're going to waste it all because you're afraid of what people at school might say??? If you're going to leave if off during school, you might as well just stop wearing it altogether. I watched my brother do the same thing and his teeth have all shifted back. What a waste. I listened to my orthodontist and my teeth are still fine. It's a pain to wear the retainer, but its worth it in the long run. If you can't do it out of respect for yourself, do it our of respect for the parents who paid for all that work to be done.
Reply:You have already had your braces off for 5 months. If the retainer goes in without pressure after leaving it off during the day, then you will be fine.

A little secret for you....sometimes we tell the patients to wear them all the time so that they will wear them the amount you are. If you had been told you just needed to wear them after school and nighttime, you would probably wear them less than that.

The only way you will have a problem at this point is if the retainers are going in too tight. That would mean that your teeth are shifting back and forth and eventually they won't fit.

If they are fitting fine, just keep wearing them as you are...but wear them long-term! Retainers are for life.
Reply:Wear it ALL the time unless its during you eat or brush your teeth!!
