Dentists and hygienists look at the pic please. Cavity?

First of all this is not a picture of my tooth. Im freaking about a cavity. On my other question someone suggested that it could just be a a stain in the fissure of my chewing surface. Can a stain apear black? I have very deep groves in my tooth surfaces. I found this picture which is said to just be a stained tooth before sealant. Does this look like a typically stained tooth? Would you suspect it to be decaying and or/a dental carie. The surface of my tooth does not look like this, just a little spot of black in a fissure. Please help. Im going nuts.

also, how do you feel about air abrasion? if the cari is small enoug hdo you even have to fill it after the procedure. I really want to sleep tonight but im so paranoid about my teeth. i dont ever drink pop, didnt even drink juice for about two years, eat sweets before the main meal, flouride gel, floss, brush, i have braces. My mom says if it was a cavity the orthodondist would have said so.

it looks just stained, teeth could have deep stained grooves without decay. the dentist will take his explorer and feel for decay...if it is , it will be soft and stick. If you are doing everything you say you are it is probably not decayed. air abrasion is fine, but it has to be a small lesion and on a virgin tooth with no fillings in it already

I seems you need to brush more.


First, get a better tooth brush, better tooth paste, and strong,good effective mouth wash.


Brush/Gurgle as often as possible. Better after every meal.


Dont forget to floss. Also, eat less candy, becuase it seems a cavity IS beginning to develope. But it can be fought away.

A cavity cannot be diagnosed by seeing a picture... I would go see your dentist if you are concerned.


Your orthodontist is not really responsible for restorative procedures... he would refer you to your dentist if he noticed anything suspicious... that doesn't mean he noticed it.
Reply:It really isn't possible to tell if that is a cavity just from a picture. You have to be able to feel the tooth with an explorer. That is definitely suspicious looking, though. I would make an appointment with a dentist to have it checked out. BTW, the orthodontist typically isn't looking for decay as that isn't his job.





Don't worry too much about this. A filling really isn't a big deal. I am a dentist and I have several fillings myself. I'm not proud of them, but it happens. Thankfully we have modern medicine where these problems are so easily fixed.
