Hamster Help!!?

I think my hamster's teeth are too long. Other than going to a Vet, can I give it foods to trim the teeth down. My hamster doesn't like the store-bought wood chews, so any ideas? Are there any foods to trim down my hammies teeth?!! Please list the most effective foods! Also, some pictures of what the teeth are supposed to look like! Thanks!! :-)

Hamster Help!!?
I used bird toys with my hamsters and they seemed to like them better than the wood toys designed for them. I could hang them from the top of their cage and they'd swing from them and have a great time! You do need something for them to gnaw on and get their teeth to wear down. Have you tried unshelled nuts? My hamsters would chew on these for about a week before breaking through and it kept them busy and interested while wearing down their teeth in a natural way. I'd just buy them from the bulk bins at the supermarket.
Reply:if his teeth were truly overgrown, he would have starved to death from not being able to eat. Report It

Reply:no go to haltom city clinic imedietly
Reply:One of my hamsters had the same problem, and if wood chews don't work, I suggest getting the food that is packed into a stick-type thing, where they have to chew on it to get food. Or maybe a salt stone, which you can attach to the side of the cage in order for your hamster to chew on it. Hope it helps.
Reply:make him chew on bark from a tree not those would bought chews
Reply:if a hamsters teeth are too long then give him/her a chew toy like a wooden toy house they chew on those and their teeth get grinned alittle
Reply:Well you can try something that IS store-bought, but this is a good product:

Reply:Hi Jessica! Nuts are fattening, but they have the added effect of generally trimming down the teeth; the best nut that I can think of for trimming teeth is the Brazil nut, commonly called Monkey toes; they're dark brown and have three sides to them; they look kind of like a little foot ball; if hammie tears into that nut he'll trim his teeth for sure; if you or I bit into it we'd break our teeth! But its on the list of nuts that are okay for gerbils and hamsters! But I'd still take Hammie to the vet to show you how long they should be and to trim them if needed; and that way you'll know for sure when they need trimming in the future!
Reply:Yes you can give them the bird seed thing that hangs from the side of the cage, I called my niece she is 11 and has 4 hamsters, she said her vet told her it would be fine to give to them instead of the bought bark....she said it keeps their teeth down, and clean are really clean, they gnaw on it for along time,.......she does give nuts also in shell, the Brazil nuts also.........and they love them...hope this helps ya..
Reply:What i do is i give them little dog bones. they like them, its good for their teeth, and its healthy.

Hopes this helps!
Reply:dog food is good for their teeth to gnaw on.
Reply:if they are given the right foods, a good pellet seed mix, and nuts, it's rare for their teeth to become overgrown. when they are too long they will curl. normal teeth are somehwhat straight and very long. see link below for pics to help u know. often they dont like teh wood chews. try all-natural dog biscuits such as pnutbutter bark bars. read the ingredients to make sure there is no garlic as many dog chew have. garlic is toxic to them. i prefer vegetarian ones with the least amount of ingredients.

if your pets teeth are already overgrown, he MUST see a vet. the teeth must be trimmed by a small animal vet or he will die. he will not be able to eat %26amp; the teeth can grow into his brain. if they aren't curling, they are probably fine. as i said it's rare if they're fed right. and their teeth are quite long.
