What is this elastic appliance on my daughter's braces called?

It's a long elastic type thing that goes over her wire and two brackets that is being used to bring the front teeth together.

Those are actually called 'power chains'.

Reply:I believe it's called a rubber band.
Reply:it is a special rubber band used for braces
Reply:Maybe they are called rubber bands. They used to actually use little rubber bands when I had braces. Those must be more durable, uh, what your daughter has.

Edit: You'd have to find out specifics from her orthodontist. What she has must be a new thing. I've never seen it like that before.
