Oh boy, more othodontic questions....?

Ok, i went in for my "consultation" today, but my mother gave the OK to go ahead and do my xrays, pictures, and impressions today. That, brought my "putting on the braces" date come even closer. Because i wont have to go to a different appointment for the above listed items. So, today is November 19 2007. I am getting them on late Januarary 2008 (2 months!). So yeah. bad news for me. Now correct me if im wrong but all i have to do is go, get them on. And have them tightened. Then get them taken off. But will they put bottom and top braces on in the same day? Really, i dont want fancy colors on my braces. I just want plain old silver and gray braces for the first couple months, just so my teeth dont bring attention. Is that all, today i had my Xrays, pictures, those "Goop" impressions. And the "Waxy" impressions. The next visit i get braces, then i get them tightened for like, 2 years. Then i get them off and get retainer. Is that the timeline here? Or will there be more "complications"

I've had braces for almost 2 years and it seems like a decade. -sighs-


You've got the time line pretty correct.


As for complications, it depends on your individual mouth. If a complication arises then you will have to work around it but there is not much telling at this point (especially from us on Answers, lol). If you have a noticably problimatic (sp?) mouth the orthodontist would have said so already.


Unfortunately, I have one of those types of mouths. I had to have surgery to get my baby tooth pulled and a chain cemented to my stubborn adult tooth which is stuck way up in my gums. The other end of the chain is attatched to my braces and they pull it down a little every time I get my braces tightened. It hurts like crap, lol.


So I can't get my braces off until that tooth comes down (I've had the chain on for over a year!) which will probably be quite a while. So yeah...just wanted to share that and cheer you up (that you probably don't have to go through the same). But anyway, I think you've got it straight. Happy braces wearing (it's really not that bad unless you have my kinda thing) ;)


Oh! And you might get the top or bottom on first for a few months- it just depends. I had my tops on first.
Reply:Well first you might get spacers, then a little bit later you will get top and bottom brackets, then a few weeks later the wires, then you will get them tightened once and a while, you might have to wear rubber bands at some point or another, it just depends
Reply:When I had braces that was pretty much it for me. I went in and got them all on in the same day and then once a month got them tightened. I had to have those side elastics too to correct my overbite. Sometimes a bracket or the wire will come loose and they have to replace it but you can prevent this by following the guidelines they give you on what to eat. You eat hard stuff and chances are you will pop a bracket off...I did! Good luck! Oh and take some Advil before going for tightening it helps reduce the achy pain you get in your jaw.
Reply:well if u dont have to get spacers before yeah they might put to both on at once i got my top first so it is up to the orthodontist really
